Job Description
Serve as the central administrative and communication hub for a healthcare unit within a premier substance use disorder treatment facility. The Unit Clerk manages patient records, coordinates admissions and discharges, schedules procedures, maintains medical inventory, and handles front-line unit communications. By streamlining daily clerical workflows, this role allows clinical and medical staff to focus on delivering high-quality, patient-centered care.
Job Responsibilities & Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Patient Records & Charting: Manage and maintain complete, accurate patient medical records, including admission, transfer, and discharge documentation; ensure patient charts are organized and accessible for clinical staff.
- Unit Communication & Coordination: Act as the primary communication link between patients, medical providers, and internal departments; manage phone systems, respond to inquiries, and route information promptly.
- Scheduling & Administrative Support: Schedule patient appointments, diagnostic tests, and clinical procedures; prepare and distribute unit reports, forms, and administrative correspondence.
- Inventory Management: Monitor stock levels and assist with inventory management for office supplies and essential medical materials on the unit.
Requirements:
- Education: High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency with personal computer systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and Electronic Health Record (EHR) systems; basic knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare documentation.
- Core Competencies: Strong organizational, multitasking, and interpersonal communication skills; ability to maintain accuracy in a fast-paced clinical setting.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Certification as a Unit Clerk or Medical Secretary.
- Previous administrative or clerical experience in a hospital, residential treatment, or outpatient clinical environment.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations, patient privacy standards, and advanced healthcare management software.
