Working under the supervision of an assigned clinical leader, the Behavior Specialist assesses the function of behavior, designs and implements individualized CBT-specific treatment plans, provides training and education to patients and their support systems, collaborates with an interdisciplinary treatment team, and monitors progress to achieve optimal clinical outcomes.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Therapeutic Services & Care Delivery:
    • Deliver cognitive behavioral and other therapeutic interventions, including group sessions, according to clinical standards of care and under clinical leader supervision.
    • Design and execute CBT-specific treatment plans tailored to address presenting symptoms and individual patient goals.
    • Provide training and education to parents and support persons on supporting CBT interventions, positive reinforcement techniques, modeling behaviors, and managing challenging situations.
    • Ensure patient safety and maintain a safe therapeutic environment.
  • Progress Monitoring & Clinical Supervision:
    • Regularly monitor the effectiveness of behavioral interventions by administering outcome measures, reviewing results, and modifying care plans in consultation with the clinical leader.
    • Participate in routine supervision sessions with the clinical leader to report progress and refine treatment strategies based on patient observations.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Staff Coaching:
    • Participate in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings and assist in overall treatment plan development.
    • Communicate treatment interventions and ongoing support needs to interdisciplinary team members and family support systems.
    • Provide coaching and training support to direct care team members (e.g., MHTs, nurses, clinic assistants) who are less familiar with CBT principles.
  • Documentation & Administrative:
    • Complete accurate, timely medical record documentation—including therapeutic treatment plans, outcome assessments, and psychosocial information—in compliance with regulatory and payer standards.
    • Support staffing and scheduling adjustments based on program and patient care needs.
    • Participate in committees, task forces, work groups, and ongoing continuing education opportunities.

    • Valid Substance Abuse Counselor-in-Training (SAC-IT) credential (or state equivalent) required if assigned to an Addiction Recovery program.
    • Active, valid driver's license in good standing (required for Residential programs; preferred for all levels of care).
  • Experience:
    • Relevant Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment (CBT) experience required (12 months preferred; acceptable experience includes clinical care, human services, or educational equivalents).
