Job Description
Reporting to the Director of Nursing, the Staff Nurse provides direct nursing care within inpatient behavioral health, mental health, and substance use treatment programs. You will manage medication administration, assist with nursing assessments, transcribe physician orders, monitor psychiatric and physical health status, and maintain meticulous electronic documentation.
Job Responsibilities & Requirements
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver direct nursing care and complete nursing assessments in accordance with Florida scope of practice and medical protocols.
- Safely administer prescribed medications and treatments; monitor patients for medication efficacy, side effects, and changes in medical/psychiatric status.
- Apply clinical judgment and de-escalation techniques during crisis situations, ensuring suicide risk awareness and patient safety.
- Transcribe, document, and execute provider orders accurately within the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.
- Collaborate with physicians, psychiatrists, and interdisciplinary team members in treatment planning and interdepartmental communications.
- Maintain HIPAA compliance, Joint Commission accreditation readiness, and strict adherence to controlled substance management standards.
Requirements & Qualifications:
- Experience Level: Intermediate Level (Minimum 2+ years of clinical nursing experience preferred).
- Licensure: Active, unrestricted LPN or RN license in the State of Florida.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience preferred; inpatient substance use disorder and co-occurring mental health experience strongly preferred.
- Key Skills: Working knowledge of psychiatric and addiction nursing standards, strong EMR documentation skills, ability to remain calm in emergency/crisis situations, and effective interdisciplinary teamwork.
