Job Description

Provide nursing support for psychiatric services within an outpatient clinic setting in Round Rock, working under the direction of the Director of Outpatient Nursing, Regional Center Director, and Nurse Manager. Operating within a multidisciplinary team, this position supports prescribing Physicians and Nurse Practitioners by conducting clinical rooming, performing diagnostic lab tasks, managing medication refills and prior authorizations, and delivering health education to clients.

Travel/Coverage: Provides regional coverage for nearby outpatient clinics to support vacancies, trainings, sick leave, or vacations as needed.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

Key Responsibilities:

  • Clinical Patient Support: Room patients, collect vital signs, height, and weight, and accurately log clinical data in the electronic medical record (EMR); delegate tasks to or supervise Certified Medical Assistants (CMAs) as needed.
  • Medication & Lab Administration: Stage medication refills, process medication authorizations to prevent treatment lapses, administer injections, perform venipuncture, and conduct urine drug screens.
  • Health Education: Provide structured education to patients on nutrition, psychiatric medications, health diagnoses, and wellness topics.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Coordinate closely with prescribing physicians, nurse practitioners, and multidisciplinary team members while maintaining agency policy compliance.

Requirements:

  • Education & Licensure: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing with an active, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) license in the State of Texas.
  • Licensing & Travel: Valid Texas driver’s license with an approved driving record for regional clinic travel.
  • Technical & Soft Skills: Computer literacy in Windows, MS Office (Word, Teams), and EMR systems; strong oral and written communication skills; ability to collaborate effectively in team-based care.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Certifications: ANCC Psychiatric/Mental Health Certification, Primary Care Nursing, or Certified Addictions Registered Nurse (CARN) credential.
  • Clinical Background: Experience in outpatient psychiatric clinics, inpatient behavioral health units, primary care, or med/surg environments.
  • Specialized Population Experience: Prior work supporting individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities or substance use disorders.
