Job Description

The Housekeeper maintains a clean, safe, sanitary, and orderly environment for patient care across facility rooms, offices, and common areas. This role performs detailed cleaning and infection control procedures, manages laundry operations, and ensures adequate environmental service supplies. Reporting to departmental leadership, the Housekeeper also monitors equipment maintenance needs and coordinates scheduled waste disposal services.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

Primary Responsibilities

  • Facility Sanitation & Upkeep: Conducts daily sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, floor polishing, and window/wall washing across patient rooms, bathrooms, administrative offices, and hallways.
  • Patient Room Preparation: Sanitizes room fixtures, washes bed frames, brushes mattresses, and remakes beds following patient discharges.
  • Linen & Laundry Management: Operates commercial washers and dryers, launders facility linens, handles soiled linens according to infection control protocols, and maintains stocked linen closets.
  • Infection Control & Safety: Practices universal precautions and follows Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for chemical handling; disinfects equipment and surfaces using proper germicides; maintains slip/fall safety awareness during floor care.
  • Equipment & Inventory Control: Manages cleaning cart and utility closet inventories; properly cleans and stores equipment after each shift; reports necessary repairs or equipment needs to leadership.
  • Operational Support: Empties waste collection areas; assists with scheduling for infectious waste and confidential shredding contractors; sets up furniture and decorations for facility meetings and events.

Requirements & Qualifications

  • Education & Experience: High school diploma or equivalent preferred; prior housekeeping experience in a healthcare, clinical, or commercial setting preferred.
  • Skills & Competencies:
    • Basic English reading, writing, and verbal communication skills to follow instructions and safety guidelines.
    • Knowledge of standard infection control protocols, germicidal cleaning processes, and floor care equipment (buffers, carpet extractors).
    • Strong attention to detail, safety, and maintaining a welcoming environment for patients and staff.
  • Certifications: CPR, First Aid, and crisis de-escalation certifications may be required based on state or facility guidelines (training provided upon hire).
