Job Description

We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to provide Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services within our 24/7 inpatient psychiatric setting. The BCBA leads the clinical assessment of challenging behaviors, designs and evaluates individualized Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), trains nursing and direct care staff on ABA principles, and collaborates closely with the interdisciplinary care team to maintain a safe, therapeutic milieu.

Job Responsibilities & Requirements

Key Responsibilities

  • Functional Assessment & Intervention Planning:
    • Conduct Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs) to identify the underlying functions of challenging behaviors.
    • Develop, implement, and adjust individualized, evidence-based Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) based on assessment data and patient needs.
    • Systematically collect, track, and analyze behavioral data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and drive continuous program refinement.
  • Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Staff Training:
    • Provide hands-on training, ongoing coaching, and clinical guidance to nursing staff, Mental Health Technicians (MHTs), and direct care personnel on BIP execution and core ABA principles.
    • Active participant in multidisciplinary treatment team meetings alongside psychiatrists, psychologists, social workers, and nurses.
    • Escalate behavioral trends and clinical recommendations to site leadership to support continuous program development.
  • Safety, Supervision & Compliance:
    • Participate in workplace safety initiatives and crisis de-escalation/intervention protocols as needed.
    • Provide clinical supervision, mentorship, and performance feedback to Registered Behavior Technicians (RBTs) or Behavior Technicians.
    • Complete timely, accurate documentation in compliance with facility protocols, state laws, and BACB ethical guidelines.
    • Report and document any suspected physical/sexual abuse or neglect according to state mandates and system policies.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education & Certification:
    • Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), Psychology, or a related behavioral health discipline.
    • Active certification as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) through the Behavior Analyst Certification Board (BACB) and state licensure/registration (where required).
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 2 years of experience conducting FBAs and implementing BIPs for individuals with complex behavioral health needs preferred (inpatient psychiatric or residential experience strongly preferred).
  • Mandated Trainings & Credentials:
    • American Heart Association CPR Certification (required within 30 days of hire).
    • Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI) Training (required within 60 days of hire).
    • Compliance with state-specific RCC/CBRF facility requirements where applicable.
